6 Delicious Foods that Prevent Aging

I am a firm believer in using natural methods to prevent aging, mainly through organic skin care products and natural foods. Simply eating the right foods that work for your body instead of against it can drastically determine how young your skin appears for how long. Although eating these anti-aging foods early in life improves your chance of really slowing down aging, making the decision to switch to these foods can improve the texture, luminosity, and overall appearance of your skin at any age. The common misconception is that natural, anti-aging foods taste like sh** and are only for crazy vegans and health food nuts who eat kale and drink weird superfood shakes from Whole Foods, but the truth is these natural foods that prevent aging are found everywhere, and they are delicious (by society's standards). Discover 6 delicious foods that prevent aging:

1.  Avocado - My absolute favorite anti-aging food, hands down. Most people believe avocados to be "fattening", but this fruit is unbelievably nutritious. Avocados are high in oleic acid, a healthy monounsaturated fat that is great for your metabolism and digestive system. Plus, avocados are packed full of antioxidants and vitamin E that help produce collagen, which is what keeps your skin tissue supple and youthful. So don't be afraid to dig into that guacamole, as long as avocados are the main ingredient (not sour cream, like in some pre-made guacamole dips).

2.  Dark Chocolate - Now you don't need an excuse to eat chocolate. Dark chocolate made from cocoa beans contains high amounts of antioxidants that protect your skin from UV exposure. Of course, UV exposure literally destroys skin and makes you appear older. Only chocolate that has not been through the refining process has this anti-aging property. Most milk and white chocolates are refined, and therefore stripped of antioxidant flavanols that prevent aging.

3.  Berries - Nothing beats fresh berries on a summer day...(except ice cream, maybe). Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, and every other edible berry contains anthocyanins and flavonols that reduce inflammation and fight off free radicals that cause cells to age. Berries are real superfoods that should not be ignored. After all, they taste great in salads, desserts, shakes, and solo.


4.  Brazil Nuts - Literally stop your skin from aging by consuming just two Brazil nuts each day. It sounds unbelievable, but Brazil nuts contain selenium, a mineral that helps produce the powerful antioxidant known as glutathione. Glutathione repairs damaged cells and actually halts signs of aging. Other nuts, such as cashews and almonds, can also prevent aging because they contain omega-3 fatty acids.

5.  Fish - Especially cod, sardines, tuna, salmon and other coldwater fish are known to lower your mortality rate and combat UV-related cell damage. These coldwater fishes are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids that promote shiny hair and youthful skin. Not only does consuming fish keep you looking younger, but it also lowers your blood pressure and risk of developing heart disease.

6.  Red Wine - Still not an excuse to become an alcoholic, but drinking just one 8 oz. glass per day can prevent heart disease, cancer, blood clots, and inflammation. Furthermore, red grape skin contains resveratrol, which increases collagen production and improves the overall suppleness of skin. However, drinking more than the recommended amount does not provide extra protection and benefits.


Other foods that prevent aging include beans, whole grains, and vegetables. Of course, whether they are delicious or not is subjective. I guess that goes for the six foods listed above, as well. Anyhow, incorporating just a couple of these anti-aging foods into your daily diet can make a difference in your health and how you age.
