Renpure Tropicals Australian Sun and Surf Shampoo - Review

After using Renpure Originals Argan Oil shampoo for nearly a year, I decided to try another Renpure shampoo formula - Australian Sun and Surf shampoo. I absolutely LOVED the argan oil formula (I wrote a review about it on this blog), so I automatically assumed this Sun and Surf shampoo would be amazing, too. The truth is that I do indeed like the Renpure Tropicals Australian Sun and Surf shampoo a lot, BUT not quite  as much as Renpure Originals Argan Oil shampoo. I will explain further...

These two shampoos are very similar, but I feel like the Tropicals Australian formula doesn't work into my hair as well. By that, I mean it takes longer to distribute through my [wet] hair. Upon rinsing, I don't get that same ultra-smooth feeling like with the Originals Argan Oil formula, which spread through my hair very nicely and left it feeling very hydrated. This shampoo has a very thick, rich consistency that is different from the Originals Argan Oil shampoo. I will list the benefits of the Tropicals Australian shampoo:
  • It smells wonderful (very tropical-ish, like coconut)
  • It contains natural ingredients (no parabens or sulfates)
  • It's affordable (around $6)
  • It leaves your hair feeling clean
Would I purchase Renpure Tropicals Australian Sun and Surf Shampoo again? Probably so, and I'll explain why. Once my hair dries after using this shampoo, it feels very clean - just like with the Originals Argan Oil formula. My hair is left soft, shiny, and smooth for approximately three to four days. I did not purchase the conditioner, like I did with the Orginals formula, so maybe that's why I got different results. So far, I am impressed with Renpure products and will continue using them for my hair needs.

All the Best,
April Marie

Alba Botanica Pineapple Enzyme Cleanser Review

A couple weeks ago I purchased Alba Botanica Pineapple Enzyme Cleanser because I really like most of Alba Botanica's products. I did really like the overall consistency of this product. The light pineapple fragrance also had a pleasant smell that wasn't sickeningly overwhelming. It's a clear gel formula that doesn't lather too much, feels good on your skin. However, I was ultimately disappointed because my face started drying out after a couple weeks. Ugh. No Good! Any facial cleanser that dries out your face is a complete dud - stop using immediately. So, I checked the ingredients AGAIN, 'cause usually that's the first thing I do before purchasing any product. Guess what: the second ingredient is sodium myreth sulfate! So, I did some research on that ingredient and found out it's a cleansing agent found in many face products. It actually lathers up and strips your skin of natural oils, causing dryness and sometimes irritation. I am very disappointed now in Alba Botanica because they claim to be so natural and eco-friendly. Sodium myreth sulfate is NOT natural. I  basically could have spend a couple bucks on a similar quality facial cleanser at the drugstore! Stupid me because I usually research every product I purchase online, and Amazon doesn't usually display product ingredients. That's a total waste of $7. So, I've decided to give it away. I'm sticking with Juice Organics Brightening Cleanser... it's by far worth a couple more bucks ($11) and works amazingly well.

'Alba Botanica' Natural AcneDote Scrub - Review

Exfoliation is an essential aspect of skincare regime as the accumulation of dead cells, oil and dirt cause skin's oil production to increase, resulting in breakouts. Finding a proficient scrub isn't the easiest task as there are hundreds available on the market; some are natural, most are not. I personally have tried several scrubs, and I've learned that they are not all created equally. Some scrubs are too abrasive, causing skin to become damaged, while other scrubs aren't abrasive enough, making them rather pointless. Alba Botanical has a lovely line of natural skincare products, ranging from sunscreens to facial cleansers. Since I have been impressed with their products so far, I wanted to try their Natural AcneDote Face & Body Scrub because I do suffer from occasional acne.

Product Details

Alba Botanica Natural AcneDote Scrub is an extremely powerful, multifunctional scrub that works on both your face and body to clean your pores and fight breakouts even after you rinse. This natural scrub contains no artificial fragrances, colors, sulfates, chemicals, etc., and is never tested on animals. Furthermore, only vegetarian ingredients are used in the scrub, so you can rest assured your skin is exposed to only high-quality ingredients. Since this natural scrub is designed to eliminate breakouts, it contains absolute no oil to ensure maximum strength efficiency. You can purchase 'Alba Botanica' Natural AcneDote Scrub on Amazon for under $10. Keep in mind a little bit goes a LONG way, so it's a great value.

My Personal Results

A lot of products, even natural ones, aren't strong enough to eliminate my breakouts. This scrub is very potent, and I literally feel it fighting my breakouts even after I rinse my face. However, the product is not harsh on my skin; the granules are just abrasive enough to cleanse any impurities without damaging my skin. The citrus scent of this scrub is very refreshing, yet not overpowering. I don't smell the scent once I rinse my face. Personally, I use this scrub in the shower so that I can thoroughly rinse the granules off my skin. Since this scrub is designed for body, as well, I also use it on my neck and chest. I haven't tried it on any other region yet, but I am confident the results would be great. My overall results have been wonderful! I was really surprised because I didn't really believe this scrub would help alleviate my acne, but it has proved me wrong. I notice a reduction of inflammation almost immediately after rinsing my face, and my skin feels really clean all day. Since too much exfoliation from any scrub can damage skin over time, I only use this product every three days or so. However, that is just my personal preference.

The Bottom Line

After using the Alba Botanica Natural AcneDote Scrub, I no longer feel like I have to search to find another natural scrub. It's very effective on breakouts, yet gentle enough to deep-clean your skin without harming it. Of course, results may vary. Whether you're looking for a basic facial scrub to help fight breakouts, or an all-over body scrub to exfoliate your skin before applying tanning products, this natural scrub by Alba Botanica can provide the results you want for under $10. Like I mentioned above, just a little bit goes a long way. I purchased mine over a month ago, and I still have over half a bottle left! Sure, you can find slightly cheaper scrubs at drugstores, but they won't contain certified organic ingredients and fight breakouts at the same time! Alba Botanica takes pride in developing high-quality, natural formulas, and I have not found a product of theirs I regret purchasing. Click here for 'Alba Botanica' Natural AcneDote Scrub.

6 Delicious Foods that Prevent Aging

I am a firm believer in using natural methods to prevent aging, mainly through organic skin care products and natural foods. Simply eating the right foods that work for your body instead of against it can drastically determine how young your skin appears for how long. Although eating these anti-aging foods early in life improves your chance of really slowing down aging, making the decision to switch to these foods can improve the texture, luminosity, and overall appearance of your skin at any age. The common misconception is that natural, anti-aging foods taste like sh** and are only for crazy vegans and health food nuts who eat kale and drink weird superfood shakes from Whole Foods, but the truth is these natural foods that prevent aging are found everywhere, and they are delicious (by society's standards). Discover 6 delicious foods that prevent aging:

1.  Avocado - My absolute favorite anti-aging food, hands down. Most people believe avocados to be "fattening", but this fruit is unbelievably nutritious. Avocados are high in oleic acid, a healthy monounsaturated fat that is great for your metabolism and digestive system. Plus, avocados are packed full of antioxidants and vitamin E that help produce collagen, which is what keeps your skin tissue supple and youthful. So don't be afraid to dig into that guacamole, as long as avocados are the main ingredient (not sour cream, like in some pre-made guacamole dips).

2.  Dark Chocolate - Now you don't need an excuse to eat chocolate. Dark chocolate made from cocoa beans contains high amounts of antioxidants that protect your skin from UV exposure. Of course, UV exposure literally destroys skin and makes you appear older. Only chocolate that has not been through the refining process has this anti-aging property. Most milk and white chocolates are refined, and therefore stripped of antioxidant flavanols that prevent aging.

3.  Berries - Nothing beats fresh berries on a summer day...(except ice cream, maybe). Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, and every other edible berry contains anthocyanins and flavonols that reduce inflammation and fight off free radicals that cause cells to age. Berries are real superfoods that should not be ignored. After all, they taste great in salads, desserts, shakes, and solo.

4.  Brazil Nuts - Literally stop your skin from aging by consuming just two Brazil nuts each day. It sounds unbelievable, but Brazil nuts contain selenium, a mineral that helps produce the powerful antioxidant known as glutathione. Glutathione repairs damaged cells and actually halts signs of aging. Other nuts, such as cashews and almonds, can also prevent aging because they contain omega-3 fatty acids.

5.  Fish - Especially cod, sardines, tuna, salmon and other coldwater fish are known to lower your mortality rate and combat UV-related cell damage. These coldwater fishes are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids that promote shiny hair and youthful skin. Not only does consuming fish keep you looking younger, but it also lowers your blood pressure and risk of developing heart disease.

6.  Red Wine - Still not an excuse to become an alcoholic, but drinking just one 8 oz. glass per day can prevent heart disease, cancer, blood clots, and inflammation. Furthermore, red grape skin contains resveratrol, which increases collagen production and improves the overall suppleness of skin. However, drinking more than the recommended amount does not provide extra protection and benefits.

Other foods that prevent aging include beans, whole grains, and vegetables. Of course, whether they are delicious or not is subjective. I guess that goes for the six foods listed above, as well. Anyhow, incorporating just a couple of these anti-aging foods into your daily diet can make a difference in your health and how you age.

'Juice Organics' Pomwash Exfoliating Facial Foamer - Review

It is really difficult to find a great facial cleanser that doesn't contain harsh ingredients. I have tried many different facial cleansers, most of which were unsatisfactory. The main problem I had is many cleansers are difficult to fully wash off skin, so they leave behind soapy residue that clogs the pores and causes breakouts. I wanted a foam facial cleanser that would be light on the skin and easily wash off my face. Of course it had to be organic, as well. I think I may have found my new favorite organic face cleanser: 'Juice Organics' Pomwash Exfoliating Facial Foamer.

Product Details

'Juice Organics' Pomwash Exfoliating Facial Foamer is an organic, antioxidant-rich face cleanser that contains a blend of organic pomegranate and grape juices mixed with papaya and pineapple enzymes for exfoliation. Pure essential oils and other natural ingredients including Aloe Vera leaf juice, pumpkin seed extract, and others, are also added to this product. 'Juice Organics' Pomwash Exfoliating Facial Foamer can be found on Amazon for about $15 for 5 fl. oz. View the product below:

My Personal Results

I love the foaming consistency of this product against my face. You just need to pump out a small amount of the foam as a little bit goes a long way. The foam spreads nicely across my skin, so even application is inevitable. Plus, I am very impressed with how easily the foam rinses off my face. No more repeat rinsing for five minutes just to remove remaining residue. The scent of this product is very pleasant, it definitely smells of pomegranate. I have also experienced phenomenal results from this facial cleanser; my skin looks brighter and feels softer. Furthermore, the acne on my chin is disappearing, which I'm assuming this is due to the fruit enzymes. I am very happy with 'Juice Organics' Pomwash Exfoliating Facial Foamer, and will definitely continue using it.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a gentle, lightweight facial cleanser with that amazing foaming action, you will love 'Juice Organics' Pomwash Exfoliating Facial Foamer. The price is a little higher than drugstore products, but this product lasts about a month with daily use. Since this is the second product I've tried from 'Juice Organics', I can safely say I am impressed with the quality and results of their organic facial line. Of course, you may experience different results because everybody has different skin chemistry.

April

MyFitnessPal.com - Review

Keeping healthy and in shape is extremely important to me, so the other day I decided to look for a free app or website that would essentially allow me to track everything I eat in a journal. Well, I found that and more at MyFitnessPal.com. I actually downloaded the app to my smartphone so that I can record my exercise and diet everywhere I go for convenience. Rarely do I actually log on to the actual website, mainly because I'm more used to the app. However, I tried out the website version today so I could write a complete review.

MyFitnessPal.com may be the best fitness website/app ever created. It's basically the free version to WeightWatchers.com and all those paid dieting programs. MyFitnessPal.com has so many useful, convenient features that are so easy to use. Upon joining, you are required to record your initial weight, height, gender, and then goal weight. The system then calculates how many calories you must consume each day to reach your goal.

Here's how it works:

You simply search for whatever food you ate and find it in the website's database, which includes practically every brand of food at the grocery store and major restaurant chain foods. If the database doesn't include the food item, you can manually add it. Once you find the particular food, you simply add it to one of the following categories: breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack. The system adds the food from the database into your journal, and automatically records the calories and nutritional value include fats, sugar, protein, carbs, etc. down the exact gram. I love this part because the system automatically charts everything for you, so at the end of the day, you can view your reports and know how to adjust your diet the next day. The charts imply how many grams of fats, sugar, protein, and carbs you should be consuming, and then compares that number with how many you actually consumed. You can view charts from that week, month, year, etc. and view your weight progress.

Exercise works the same way: you simply find whatever exercise you completed in the database. You specify how many minutes you engaged in the exercise, and then the system automatically calculates how many calories your burned. This amount is subtracted from your daily calorie recommendation total, so you can see how exercising effects how quickly or slowly you take to reach your personal caloric goals. Reporting charts are provided for exercise, as well.

Other features include a personal meal section where you can obviously choose from a customized meal you previously added. They system saves these meals so you can reference them at any time. Another feature is the recipe section, where you can add recipes to the system. You can also connect with other members can team up with your weight-loss or fitness goals. This really isn't my thing, so I never use it. I think MyFitnessPal includes some other features, too, that I am not aware of because I do not use them. Altogether, MyFitnessPal is exactly what it says: a true fitness pal, so I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun, personal, easy way to lose weight, keep in shape, or gain muscle. Having this app on my phone forces me to become more conscious of the kinds of foods I eat, which subsequently has improved my overall health. I will definitely keep using MyFitnessPal.com.

'Desert Essence' Blemish Touch Stick - Review

In the latter part of my last post "Naturally Clear Skin", I mentioned I would be reviewing a natural tea oil acne product. I've only used the 'Desert Essence Blemish Touch Stick' three days now, but my results have been impressive so far. As I mentioned in my previous post, healthy skin is closely associated with your diet. Your skin often reveals the types of foods you are eating. Of course, there are other non-diet related factors involved too, including stress levels, beauty regime, and overall health to name a few. Anyway, I decided to severely limit my consumption of those acidic foods and increase my water consumption. Plus, I'm drinking more fresh-brewed green tea. Although improving my diet has vastly helped clear up the actual breakouts, it hasn't significantly improved the acne scars on my chin, which is why I decided to purchase the 'Desert Essence Blemish Touch Stick'.

Product Details

'Desert Essence Blemish Touch Stick' is a natural solution that is designed mainly for breakouts, but can also be used on insect bites and other minor skin irritations. I don't recommend using it on open wounds, like cuts. This solution contains Eco-Harvest Tea Tree Oil, which is an amazing antiseptic that works wonders on breakouts. Other natural essential oils included in this product are:
  • Lavender
  • Rosemary
  • Blue chamomile
  • Calendula
  • Thyme
  • Petitgrain
  • Birch
 ...to name a few

There are NO synthetic perfumes, dyes, or chemical ingredients included! I am very selective about the products I put on my face, so I try very hard to watch out for crappy ingredients. So, as far as I'm aware, this blemish stick is 100% natural. If I'm wrong, feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this post! :-)

My Personal Results

The 'Desert Essence Blemish Touch Stick' comes in a frosted glass bottle with a roll-on applicator, which I love because I can reuse it. It is easy to roll the solution onto your skin, directly over breakouts, scars, or blemishes. I'm not going to lie, the solution smells very strong. I don't recommend applying the solution directly before eating or going anywhere. I use the product after washing my face before going to sleep. By the time I get up in the morning, the smell has dissipated. Some people apply the solution twice per day for faster results. The solution kind of stings a little bit after a couple of seconds after applying it to the skin. This stinging personally doesn't bother me because I feel like it's working. After just three days of using this solution, I have noticed my scattered breakouts are reducing in size and the redness is going away. I'm hoping this stuff works on acne scars. As I said, just three days of use and I'm already seeing a significant difference.

The Bottom Line

Desert Essence is very diligent about incorporating quality, natural ingredients in their skin care products, so it's no surprise that the 'Blemish Touch Stick' is an amazing, multifunctional solution. Not only does it work on acne, but also alleviates insect bites, minor burns, and other minor skin blemishes. I personally think the 'Desert Essence Blemish Touch Stick' is a great product to have around the home at all times. You can purchase 'Desert Essence' Blemish Touch Stick at Amazon.com for under $10 for .33 ounces. I think it's a good investment, considering how multifunctional and potent the solution is. Plus, the roll-on applicator prevents waste and causes the solution to last a long time (depending on usage).
